We received a shocking phone call a week ago Tuesday.
My 81 year old mother was diagnosed with colon cancer.
The first hurdle we had to cross was a CT scan to see if the cancer had spread to her liver or lungs.
It has not. Tiny celebration.
Surgery was then scheduled for last Friday to remove the tumor. All went well. Tiny celebration.
Next hurdle was waiting for the pathology report on whether the cancer had penetrated the colon wall or invaded the lymph nodes. We found out yesterday that it had not. Tiny celebration.
Now we are in the healing process. The intestines go into "sleep mode" when they are traumatized such as a reconnect surgery would do.
Hopefully things will start working again soon.
Once that happens and Mom is home and doing well we will have a BIG celebration.
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, prayer and emails.
Please continue to pray for my mother - Millie.
From my Heart,
Sandy
Prayers going up!

Wishing your Mom all the best and hoping for a fast recovery. My Mom who is 78 just finished chemo for recurrent ovarian cancer and she is doing great and playing tennis, etc., so tell your Mom that she can get back to doing the things she loves, esp. with a supportive family around.

ReplyDeleteGood thoughts and prayers to all of you during this time - but I am betting she is going to be just fine, she seems like a lady that does not get "down" too easily. My granddaughter is doing another "Fight Cancer Walk" when she gets back home after her vacation here and she wanted names for her vigil candles - she had done one for our brother and will happily add your Millie.
Best

I will pray for your mom. I had colon surgery and reconnection 4 years ago and I know what you mean about the "sleep". See if she can eat yogurt to keep the "good" bacteria balance in her intestines.
ReplyDeleteI took so many antibiotics after my surgery that it killed the good stuff and then I had another battle to fight.
I'm sorry Sandy. Sending prayers to you Mom and to you.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you and your family!
