Blog Hop Day 9

Hello, welcome to Day 9 of the Cross Country Quilt Designer's Twelve Days of Christmas Blog Hop.

On the 7th day (hump day) I was going to do a give away - but I forgot. Last night I was doing my blog at home and didn't have the image of my give away, so today we will have a give away.
Anyone commenting on my blog will be in a random drawing to win this:

Crazy 8 Charm Pack

(Forty-five 5" squares)

And....

This Pattern

Today's featured designer is: Sherri from This 'N' That.
I wonder what project she has in store for us?
I think I will go here and find out.

Today's topic: A kid story, either about your kids if you have any or other kids, even yourself.

I will title this blog Abby's A-ha Moment.

Abby, our second child required very little sleep. Trust me the child never slept.
One Christmas Eve, Bruce and I were nodding off in the family room, while waiting for Abby to go to sleep so we could play Santa. After what seemed like forever, I tip-toed upstairs to see if all were sleeping. Anthony, of course, had been sleeping for hours. Next room, Abby's, yes she is finally asleep. I tip-toed down stairs to give Bruce the go ahead.

As he was carrying the presents from the garage to the house he happened to look up, only to see our Dear Abby standing at her bedroom window.

My question to Bruce - What did you do? His answer - I waved.

I'm not sure how many years Abby had been watching us carry the presents in the house, but I'm pretty sure this was not the first time.

It reminds me of this Norman Rockwell picture.

Norman Rockwell is one of my favorites.

This is another one of my favorites.
Nobody could paint an expression like NR.
Hands and feet are very difficult for me to draw.
Not for Norman Rockwell - just look at those toes!

I love to read stories about kids, so I am off to read the other designer's stories. You should check them out too. Just follow the links below. Don't forget to leave a comment, we love to hear from you.

GE Designs, Pieces of My Heart, Atkinson Designs, Pat Sloan, Anka's Treasures,
Rosebud's Cottage, Linda Lum DeBono

Be sure to stop by tomorrow - make a comment and you might win a prize.
Tomorrow's designer is: Carrie Nelson from Miss Rosie's Quilt Company.
Tomorrow's topic is: Favorite Gift From a Child.

Some of you had questions about the commenting so I just want to clarify: To be eligible for the grand prize you need to comment on each designers project post. You don't have to do it on the exact day that it is posted, just make sure you comment on all the blogs before the hop ends. So if you missed commenting on my project day, which was Day 2, just scroll down until you get to that post and post your comment now.
Happy Hopping.

From my heart,

Sandy

  41. Great story. My DIL is now grappling with the idea that her oldest may be on to the truth about Santa--it's a sad day when parents have to cross that line and reveal the truth, but it happens in every family. We still get gifts from Santa from my mother, who is 81. The magic never ceases.

  42. I love those Rockwell paintings...I had never seen the second one I love it!

  43. Oh Abby!! Cute story! My husband and I always have the best time sneaking around on Christmas Eve putting the presents out. It makes us kind of giddy and giggly. He usually goes outside and jingles sleigh bells under their window when we are done getting the presents under the tree. Not too many years left for them to believe in Santa so we are having the most fun while we can. =)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Your Abby story is just great. Truth be told, I'm sure our kids have many stories about how they fooled us into carrying on the Santa tradition long after they "knew." Jane @ mccrthyj@aol.com

    ReplyDelete
  45. I wonder how many of our kids REALLY did see Santa putting the gifts under the tree but never said anything - from fear of not getting the presents or fear of getting trouble of not having been in bed...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  46. thanks for the great story and the chance to win that charm pack...

    ReplyDelete
  47. that is funny that Abbey was watching from the window... I can remember a year that I faked being asleep and heard my mom and dad wispering at my doorway if or not they should get the gifts out or not. :( I wish now I had been wide eyed to avoid learning the truth but I was too afraid of getting in trouble so I even put on a very realistic faint snore.

thanks for the charm pack & pattern giveaway someone is gonna get lucky! ;)

    Love from Texas! ~bonnie

  49. What a precious story! My brother and sister and I used to dig around in my parents' closet to see what 'Santa" was bringing.... Until my brother decided to show one of his friends while my mother was in the house.... Man, did he get into trouble! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh I love that pattern and the fabric! Thanks for sharing your stories.

Looks like a super give away, count me in!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love your story about Abby! At least we have been blessed with children who are heavy sleepers, so as long as I can keep myself awake long enough, I don't have to worry about discovery LOL!! I also love your little giveaway - too cute. All of you have been so generous during this hop - thank you!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  54. How fun is a giveaway.... I am having so much fun reading all the different stories...

    ReplyDelete
  55. I miss that part of Christmas, kids do make it all magical. I always had a locked room or hideaway for the kids presents, so they never saw any, and even when they got older, I would put the presents under the tree, but only a few and say that was it. Then on Christmas morning they would wake up to more under the tree. I can't believe they fell for that every year;)

  56. My Mom and my best friend are both huge NR fans, you are right, he could capture an expression like no other!

  57. Your story about Abby is so funny! My daughter was like that too, never slept. It used to drive me nuts. As soon as she hit her teen years she became a famous sleeper.
Love, love, love that Crazy 8 and the pattern, too cute!
    Fingers crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have been eyeing that pattern for quite awhile now. I'd love to win it. Thanks for you giveaway. I love the story about your daughter Abby. I never caught Santa. I must have been too heavy a sleeper!

    ReplyDelete
  59. That was so cute. I got more creative every year as to the "Is there a SC?" question. I'm going to have to ask my daughter when she finally figured it out because I don't recall her ever catching me 'help' Santa.

I just recently picked up some yardage from your Crazy eight line to make one of Carrie's Shnibbles pattern. I wanted a Xmas themed quilt so I was excited I found some at the Houston IQF. I also picked up a layer cake of Essence which I love too!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I remember as a kid seeing where the presents were hidden, WAY high on a shelf.....and figuring out a way to climb up there and look.

It was the worst Christmas I ever had; having to act surprised and knowing what they were already.

    Taught me a good lesson.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Am loving this blog hop. I have been meaning to pick up that pattern, thanks for the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  62. how could you forget about a give away? I love your story. My oldest is not much of a sleeper but the baby is (Regi wakes up at 12, and if I don't catch it would stay up all day but then she's really up at 5. Hazel who's only 3 months old sleeps for 13 hours strait at night! go figure! I didn't know about santa until I was 12 or 13! yup, still am tottaly gullable

    ReplyDelete
  63. LOL I would've waved too! What else could he do? :-)) Thanks for the fun stories and nice giveaway!

  64. Me gusta la historia que nos compartes, los hijos mios siempre trataban de saber cuales eran sus regalos, por el peso, por el ruido, otras veces con trampas, abrian los regalos y los volvian a cerrar.Picaros míos.

  74. Hi Mom!

Ha yes indeed dad did give me a wave that night; I can remember it plain as day. He was carrying a BIG box with gifts wrapped in sparkling wrapping paper.

Ok here comes the truth....that was the only time I saw dad carrying gifts in, but one other time I was sitting at the top of the steps when you guys were putting the gifts under the tree.

I think about every Christmas Eve after I had FINALLY fell asleep I would still wake up in the wee hours of the morning to go look to see if Santa had been there yet.
I would sit at the top of the steps and peep down to see. If Santa had been there I was always waaaay too excited to go back to sleep.

I can remember being “Crabby Abby” on a few Christmas mornings, maybe it was due to lack of sleep from all the excitement 8O)

    Sincerely,
Your lovely (anti-sleep on Christmas Eve) daughter Abby

  99. What a great story! When I was young, the presents showed up under the tree as they were purchased. I was the gifted 'present wrapper'; I could wrap ANYTHING and make it look neat and tidy! So I always knew what was in each gift. My parents were not wealthy, and we reused Christmas paper until it was too crinkly and worn to hold together.

  147. When my youngest son was about 7 years old he found all of the gifts I had stashed. We weren't sure what to do so we decided to give them to him anyway. On Christmas as he opened his gifts he exclaimed "cool, Santa brought me everything I saw!" I think his brothers had told him not to let on about Santa or he wouldn't get any more gifts! Thanks for all the great stories. Debbie

  150. I just love reading all of your stories! They never fail to make me smile!!

I found out after the kids were older that all 3 of them used to get up around 3AM Christmas morning and check out which packages were for them, and look at all the goodies in their stockings.
They always managed to put everything back just so, because I never figured it out!!

    hahahah

  158. At our house, one of the great things about solving the adult conspiracy at Christmas was getting to become an active member of the conspiracy. I can remember wrapping Santa gifts for my little brothers and staying up with Mom to put them under the tree on Christmas Eve!

My parents always said I was their little turkey. I guess that is why I'm so fond of collecting turkeys. Thanks for all the quilting fun.

  170. A funny, sweet story. I think our children kept up the pretense of Santa much beyond knowing the truth because they knew how much their Dad and I enjoyed it all. They are adults, but if we are lucky enough for them to be at our home for Christmas we do "Santa!"

  186. great story, we had a similar one to this, but we were watched by 3 kids when playing the role of the eastern bunny :-) somehow we explained it saying that they were so loud playing, the bunny got frightened and dropped her presents and we were just helping her, but i am not sure that they believed us... :-)

  187. Cute story, like Abby I wasn't one for a lot sleep when I was a kid, plus I was a very light sleeper. One Christmas Eve I heard a bunch of thumping round, the next morning "Santa" had left my brother a basketball and me a tetherball - I told Santa he shouldn't have played with them in house, it wasn't allowed. LOL
