My Name

The question I am asked most often? How do you pronounce your last name?

I was born on January 15th 19??. My given name is Sandra Kay Fisher.
I never had to pronounce it. Never had to spell it.

Along about 6th grade I thought it would be way cooler to be Sandy, so I started signing my school papers Sandy Fisher. (All of my family still calls me Sandra.) Still never had to pronounce it. Never had to spell it. (nice hair!)

Then I married my dear husband Bruce Gervais. (Nice shirt - What was I thinking????) Can you guess the year that we were married?

Gervais - pronounced Jer-vay. Yes the "s" is silent. It is French.

Now whenever I say my name it is followed by this lingo - Gervais - G as in George e, r, - V as in Victor a, i - S as in Sam.

And even still this is what I see on my mail.

Tervais

Gerbais

Gervaif

Grevias

Jervaif

Jerbais

Derbaif

Derbais

There are more but I do not want to bore you - but possibly you are already way past boredom.

When we make reservations at a restaurant we just use our first names - or Smith or Johnson - it is just easier.

Now you know.

From my heart,

Sandy Gervais G as in George - e, r - V as in Victor a, i - S as in Sam.

  3. Welcome to the blogging world! Let's just say that I am anxiously awaiting your new line Gobble Gobble. Will there be a pattern with the cute turkey that I saw on Moda Lissa blog during her sneak peeks during Quilt Market? I sure hope so! I want it! I've rejoined the quilting world now that my boys are older. Makes life much easier on me.
    Sorry, I ramble some!

  27. Just had to comment and say "hi" to one of my favorite fabric/pattern designers especially when I saw that you also attended a one room school! I don't think there's many of us out there! Mine was Green Valley School in Kansas and I attended for 3 years til we went to "town school".
And I'll guess you were married approx. 1975 since your hubby's tux looks a lot like the one mine wore!
Looking forward to reading your blog!

  32. Congratulations on your new blog! I was born with an unusual last name that I always had to spell (S as in sam, P as in peter, l, e, t as in tom, t as in tom (yes 2 t's) etc. etc.) I thought my married name was pretty straight-forward, but NOT. I'm STILL in the spelling game!

By coincidence, I JUST finished a quilt of one of your patterns from AP&Q April 2004 magazine, Diamonds are Forever, panels of which you had made into cushions for your sofa. I loved this pattern!
