I am so excited that the mystery quilt features star blocks.
Who doesn't love a star block.
And the variations are endless.
Just love the mellow blue and tan color combo.
And the added bonus…
a pieced border. Love it!
I quite often use stars in my quilt patterns.
On of my best selling star quilt patterns is Super Stars.
It features stars within stars forming super big stars.
It goes together quite quickly.
Triple Play one of our best selling charm pack patterns features an abstract star.
And my current favorite star quilt pattern is Kaleidoscope
featuring my Soho line of fabric.
Each designer had to design a block and name it after a "star" in their life.
I named my block Beautiful Joy after my assistant Joy.
Beautiful Joy is a unique friend who reminds me
there is more to beauty than meets the eye.
If someone can bring joy to your life
that is true beauty.
Some of the things I like about Joy.
Never talks back.
She can keep all of my new designs top secret.
She is ageless - never whines about wrinkles appearing on her face.
Her waist never grows.
Would lend a helping hand—if she had one.
Wears whatever I pin on her…
Even if it is a quilt..
Or a Christmas tree.
She loves to quilt.
When I am stuck with what to do with a design or what fabric to put where in a certain quilt,
I always think WWJD...What Would Joy Do.
Joy always has the answer.
She will always stand by my side.
Joy loves fashion as much as I do.
In fact Joy is always snooping through my closet and tying on my clothes.
One of her favs is the first gown, other than my wedding gown, that I ever purchased.
It is a blue glitter fitted column dress.
I purchased it some 23 years ago for a Gala at the Catholic School here in town.
I am sure you are wondering… why is it still hanging in your closet? Well you see I have no problem getting rid of clothes that I no longer wear. At the end of every season I do a purge. If I did not wear it this season it goes to the used clothing store here in town. But the one thing I can never get rid of are my gowns. I know it completely silly to have all those gowns taking up valuable closet real-estate but it is one of my things.
And think how much fun my granddaughter will have playing dress up...when and if I ever have granddaughters.
It just so happens that Joy has a date for the Green Snowball.
A gala where everyone has to wear something that is used, recycled, up-cycled or refashioned.
Her date is a new handsome available in town.
Not the same guy who took her ice skating.
She dumped him.
He kept telling her she needed to get her head screwed on.
Now that's just mean - no wonder she dumped him.
She is going to wear my blue glitter dress.
To refashion the gown we added a vintage fur collar.
We took the cuffs off of an old pair of worn out gloves and added them to the bottom of the sleeves.
Metallic belts are really on trend right now so that was a must.
Did you know you can make a belt out of tinfoil? Who knew?
We embellished her belt with a vintage pin.
And I might add my waist was never as tiny as Joy's.
She also processes other assets that I have never had.
Over all I think she looks stunning and will probably be the belle of the ball - at least in my eyes.
Joy...bringing joy to my heart everyday of the week.
I was trying to take some pictures in the abundance of snow that is STILL here.
It was quite windy…
She toppled over. Boy was she mad. I think she was pouting… but then it is kind of hard to tell.
Another great thing about Joy.. . You never have to look at her pouting face.
Who brings joy to your heart?
Leave a comment telling me who brings you joy
and you will be eligible to win a Table For Two jelly roll.
Now go get yourself signed up for the Fat Quarter's 2014 Designer Mystery block of the month.
