Hello and welcome to the Moda Friendship Quilt Along.

Have you been following along?

Are you making blocks?
I see Joanna is making blocks like crazy—I am envious.
It would have been a good way to get a quilt done.

Here is my block.

Friends  - what an important role they play in our lives.
This is one of my favorite quotes about friends.

It's been said that everlasting friends go long periods of time without speaking and never question their friendship. These friends pick up phones like they just spoke yesterday, regardless of how long it has been or how far away they live, and they don't hold grudges. They understand that life is busy and you will always love them.

My Friend Susan is one of those "everlasting" friends.
We first met as young marrieds - working just a few buildings from each other.
Then we had children and drifted apart.
Later on I moved into a home just down the street from her sister and our friendship was rekindled.
By now we both had small children similar in age. We often got together and chatted while the kids played.
The children grew up and we suddenly had more time for ourselves.
We both grew to love antiques and old homes and we attend many an auction and went on many a road trip antiquing.
We both bought old homes. She found hers first.
I then found mine, the home we currently live in - ironically right across the street from Susan.
We spent many a day or evening on one of our front porches - just chatting.
Then Susan experienced a life changing event which sent her to Des Moines - 2 1/2 hours from me.
I don't see Susan as often as I did when she lived across the street. But yet when I see her or we chat on the phone - it is like no time has passed.
I have not talked to Susan since she stopped by at Christmas when she was home for her family Christmas.
I think I will give her a call tonight - we will pick up right were we left off at Christmas as if it were yesterday that we last chatted. Truly an everlasting friend.

And as we know every Moda blog hop involves prizes.
Leave a comment about one of your everlasting friends to be eligible to win a Snap Pop fat eight bundle.

You have until February 27, 11:00 PM central time to leave a comment.
I will announce the winner on March 1st.
Be sure to check in with my fellow bloggers for the day.

Tomorrows bloggers will be:

Get together with a friend today and do some quilting.
From my heart,
Sandy

We have so many great memories of being together every day through clinical s in grad school, getting married, raising babies, god children, trips, work! Even though we now live several hours apart we can talk everyday sometimes and hen go months without talking then pick up the phone and start up right where we left off! The best! ( I love love love snap pop and the bright colors!)

  2. One of my everlasting friends lives in a different country from me, but she often sends our family little packages of things she knows we miss from home. A simple thing to do, but means the world to us. We all love her!

  3. A while back I saw one of my college roomates for the first time in 20 years and it was like we had just seen each other the week before. Well, except for the fact that we both had kids going to the same college we went to!

  4. My friend, Nina and I are just there for each other. We plan activities to do when we can, talk when we need to and are just there . Great friend.

  5. I have a small group of everlasting friends I left behind when I moved from Michigan to Kentucky four years ago. When I visit, we always get together for lunch and have so much fun. It's almost like I never left, except for missing them when we are apart.

  6. My everlasting friend is my sister, she is my best friend and we are total opposites but so much alike it is funny!

  7. I have a few everlasting friends but my dearest friend and I met the first day of first grade and have been besties for 60 years now. You can imagine what we have been through together. Although our lives have gone in different directions, the friendship has remained true. She means the world to me.

  8. I love, love, love the new fabric! My friend is always positive & cheerful and has caused me to try lots of new things. She is always supportive and I really appreciate her!

  9. What a lovely tribute to friendships Sandy!I have a friend that lives near me but we do not get together as often as we would like. She is one that when we visit we can pick right up again like there has been no time span between visits. She is always there to pick me up or cheer me on. I cherish her friendship. Thank you for such a great thought provoker on the blog hop:)

  10. All my friends are everlasting so it is hard to choose just one. My most everlasting friend is probably my husband. I can tell him anything.

  11. My everlasting friend and I have shared our friendship for over 50 years - when we met in second grade. She often teases that she is my "third sister" because I have a strong bond with my real sisters. We enjoy being together, mostly to shop or eat. I am fortunate to have her in my life. Thank you for the quilt block!

  12. Well one of my everlasting friends I feel the same way about. Although she has not moved away soemtimes we just get caught up in "life" and do not always get to see each other but we can call on the phone, text, email and know that we are there for each other. So Kuddos to Vicky for always being there for me. And I feel very lucky to have her in my life....thanks for asking and I do like your phrase about friendship. Thanks for sharing your wonderful art with us, you are appreciated...

  13. My best friend Margaret now lives in a different state than I do but we visit each other a couple times a year and talk often. It is always like no time has gone by we just mesh together. She is my dearest and longest friend!

  14. My everlasting friend is living in another country. But it is so amazing. Always when we see each other it is like there has no time passed between. Very special! Thanks for a lovely block!

  15. One of my Best friends is my Sister. We are almost 8 years apart so really didn't get along or get to know each other growing up. Then when I waS 15 our parents divorced and I moved 5 hrs away which even further seperated us. It wasn't until I was an adult that we finally started getting to know each other and now even though we live about 5 hrs apart we are closer than ever, we talk almost daily and can't hardly wait until we can see each other. Guess you could say we are making up for lost time.

  16. One of my everlasting friends is actually my brother's wife. We can talk for 3 hours on the phone (or 5 even). We share a love of all things fabric and quilting. We would raise each other's kids if the need arose. We live across the country from each other and have for 13 years now, but it makes no difference in our relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  17. One friend stands out a litle more now that she islisting her house and moving across the country to be closer to her family. We used to work together and share similar old fashion values. I am thankful for internet so we can stay in touch miles apart

  18. As it happens, one of my dearest friends is the person who invited me to quilt. We've shared a lot over the years - college, weddings, children - and now quilting. Thanks, friend.

  19. My Stefanie has been my friend since elementary school. Though we live far away, the phone has kept us in touch.

  20. One of my everlasting friends is a sweet lady who took me to a quilt shop even though she doesn't sew! I came for a visit---she lives 2 hrs away--and she knew I would love to go as I love to sew. I saw pre-cuts for the first time and fell in love with quilting all over again!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks for the chance to win some of your lovely fabric. My everlasting friend is Becky. We've seen each other through some pretty big "downs" but always find something to laugh about.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Love all your fabric lines - Snap Pop's no exception! My everlasting friend would be my husband ... but friends in adventure are my dogs - the dogs are also pretty darned good quilting buddies, but not as good as the cats!

    ReplyDelete
  23. My everlasting friend is my sister in law. We started out as friends in high school and then I married her brother! After a month of hospital time she lost her mama (my mother in law) last week. I certainly knew what she was going through since I lost my mom last January. My sister in law doesn't sew due to Lupus so I like to make things for her. After 34 years I know what she likes! Snap Pop is great! I love the colors. Hoping my LQS gets some.

    would love to win fabric.

  25. One of my everlasting friends lives really far away. We usually talk to each other on or around our birthdays (twice a year). Sometimes we don't--whenever we talk or on the rare occaision get together it's always the same. A long time ago we went on trip to Boston together--it was just a few days, but we hadn't been around each other in about 10 years at that time and so were a little timid about asking the other to do something we wanted to do...but EVERY time the other one would say, "I was just going to ask you if you wanted to do that." It was so much fun! Got to call her today.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My everlasting friend is actually my sister. We can share everything with one another and we do!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have an everlasting friend exactly as you have described. We actually met when we were 3 years old living in the same neighborhood. We grew up together, played together, went to school together, dated together. Life events have brought us together and drifted us apart. But we always pick up like it was yesterday. Trina

  33. I met my friend Laura at work over 25 years ago. After working together over ten years, she moved 500 miles away due to her husband's job relocation. We would see each other whenever she'd return to visit her mom. Since her mom passed away, she hasn't made the trip back here, but we still connect through phone calls and email and it's as if she is right here and never left. That is a special kind of friend. 34. Someone once told me if you have one true friend in life you're rich. I have to say I'm not only Rich but Wealthy. I had quadruple bypass surgery the end of July at age 49. My friends were there for me and my family through this tough time. A true friend is there unconditionally. You don't have to talk every day or see each other once a week. Thank you too all my true friends and people who love and care unconditionally about there friends.

  35. My ever-lasting friend is someone I can be chatting with on the phone one day, jump off to attend to family and then three days later pick up the conversation where I left off......it is wonderful not to have to re-explain things but just pick up the thread and continue on. I so appreciate the blessing of friends!

We have helped each other through many happy and trying times. I also have two groups of everlasting friends that are my quilting buddies and again we are always there for each other. Thanks for the giveaway.

  38. One of my dearest friends we've not actually seen each other in over 30 years yet know when the other needs a note, a call, an email...Life has prevented us from seeing each other, but life can't stop the love and friendship we share!

  40. My everlasting friend is one I met 25 years ago when our sons were in Kindergarten together. For over the past 15+ years we make sure to get together for "girls night" every Wednesday and spend the time laughing, crying, chatting, venting--as we either quilt or paper craft. We've seen each other at our best and at our worst, through hardships and victories, and our friendship continues to strengthen.

  43. When I was in the middle of first grade MANY MANY years ago my family moved to another town. I started a new school in the middle of that year, not knowing anyone at all or being familiar with my surroundings. I remember the very first day lining up on the playground to walk into the school. I walked up to this VERY tall girl in the line, looked up at her and ask, "Do you want to be best friends forever?" We have been that ... best friends forever ... going through all of life's up and downs and while not in daily touch we ALWAYS know that the other is there.

  44. I have moved quite a few times and no matter where I am, there are great friends that I keep with me. Over 32 yrs ago I met a dear friend as we were standing in line for storytime at the library with our 2 1/2 yr olds. We moved away 4 yr later and have kept in touch and now we have moved back to their area and had dinner the other nite. It was just like all those years had melted away. So good to be with great friends. Thanks for the giveaway!

  45. My everlasting friend is Susie. We went to high school together and were always there for each other through; marriage, divorces; jobs. Now she is a care giver for her elderly patients. She seems to be working longer hours and sometimes spends the night with one or two of them. We will always be best friends - forever. I really miss her but I understand and now that you have to do whatever it takes to make ends meet. Thank you for the free pattern and for giving all of your followers a chance to win.

  46. What a wonderful tribute to a special kind of friendship! My everlasting friend and I met in 5th grade when we were both the "new kids" in class. Now it's about 59 years later. At times we've been separated by great distance and at otber times we've been neighbors in the same apartment building in New York City. Now we live in different places, but our children live near each other and we're still in touch. No one knows you like someone you were close to growing up.

  48. I met my everlasting friend when I taught her in school over twenty years ago. We have lived several lives together, through children, marriages, divorces, sickness, losing parents, raising teenagers. she is the first person I call for ANYTHING. We live in different states and see each other whenever either of us has a chance to travel. There's nothing we couldn't ask of each other. She is one of the best gifts god ever gave me.

We did everything together and were there at each other's weddings and she was there when I had my children, but over the years we have been busy with our lives. Now that we are older, we still keep in contact and have been there for each other when we have had loses in our family. We spent so much time at each other's houses that our families are like our own.

  63. I love everlasting friendships...and it's so true that you can just pick up right where you left off, even if years have gone by. One of my best everlasting friendships is a gal I've known for over 25 years. We live in different states and are busy with our kids (she has 3 little gals and I have 3 guys!), and we can go sooooo long without chatting. But, it's like no time has passed when we have a chance to connect. Thanks for the chance - Sugar Pop is gorgeous!

  64. One of my everlasting friends has been with me since 1980. We joke that when we are both in the nursing home our nurses will wake us up at midnight on New Years Eve so we can call each other and say Happy New Year. We haven't missed a year yet even when we don't talk for six months.

  65. i met laura when i was probably about 5, maybe 6. since then, we've been inseparable, even when distance may appear to keep us apart. we have only ever gone to the same school for four years (my 2nd - 6th grade years), and then our ways parted... we haven't lived in the same spot for 16 years now, but when we see each other, it's like coming home. i pick her up at the airport and it's like we just left off. i can't imagine life without her, and my kids call her "aunt laura" because she's as close to me as a sister could be.

  69. Oh my gosh, due to health issues over the last 16 years, my circle of friends kind of disappeared, until I started quilting and discovered the wonderful Quilters in Blog Land. I have formed some very close friendships with dearest ladies I have never met face to face but feel I have known all my life. And then of course there is my wonderful Sister in law (she's a Sister to me, no in law in there). She is a Long Arm Quilter and though we live in different states, we have more fun than anyone would believe. Laughter is always the order of the day when we get together, with lots of tears when it's time to part. Friendship...how hard life would be without it!!! Thanks for the wonderful block and thank you too for a chance to win some quilting treasure. Big Hug...

  74. I have two 'forever friends' with more being added. My first one and I moved from our families to across te country to start our new lives on our own - more years than I would like to remember. My second one came when I moved to the south and started working for a large law firm. She turned out to be as crazy as me which others couldn't understand. We met in the elevator, ran around together, roomed together, and she has been such a loyal and loving friend. The rest I see all the time are in my water aerobics group - about 40 - that I can't imagine not having in my life - so supportive especially thru the dark times I have had to go thru. Don't know how one gets thru life without having loving friends like I have. Thanks for sharing.

  76. My everlasting friend is Jen. I meet her when my husband was PCSed to Fort Riley, KS. This was my first time moving away from home. I found her on myspace and asked if she could give me info on the area. Once I met her it was like I had known her forever. She had been an Army Spouse for a couple of years longer then me and she was just BA! Our husbands deployed at the same time but it was okay because we had each other. It was a sad day when they PCSed to Fort Rucker. But we have always keep in contact by Skype or text or facebook. Last time I saw her was two years after they moved and they spent the night with us on Fort Riley while they were PCSing to Fort Carson, Co. We then PCSed to Fort Jackson, SC. I wish they could have stayed at Rucker because it would only be a 6 hour drive. But I will see my friend again. I love my friends from high school but Jen understood what I was going thru as an Army wife. She never made me feel like she was too busy to take a phone call and would call out of the blue just to say she missed me. Some of my friends back home it seems like I was out of sight out of mind, but not my girl Jen. Hopefully one day we well be on the same post again if not maybe just a post away. Thanks for the chance to win!

I moved abroad, she has been ill and through some tough times over the past few years but we keep in contact as best we can and it doesn't matter to us whether a day, a week, a month or even longer passes when we are not in contact as we always have been and always will be there for each other when it counts.

I drive five hours and she drives 2 1/2 and we meet at a big quilt show, stay in a hotel, and stitch for three whole days. We eat lots of junk food and stay up late. Oh, and we sure do giggle a lot!! 110. My everlasting fried is Sue who I met in the late 70's at work one day. I told her I wanted to travel to Australia & she said let's go. We only see each other a few times a year, but it's a special bond.

    ReplyDelete
  111. My everlasting friend is my "big" sister. She lives 3000 miles away from me, but that doesn't stop us from talking almost daily on the phone and planning visit, and making quilts "together." For so many years, as we were growing up, I took her for granted...but as the years have passed, I have discovered that my best friend is my sister who has always been by my side.

Stitching or knitting. But thankfully loves the finished product.

  121. My everlasting friend and I met while working at a treatment center for abused kids. When she came to apply for the job, one of the girls had me down (my leg was broke and I was in a cast up to my hinny) and she came and pulled her off me. She got the job!! I talked a kid out of stabbing her with a pair of scissors once. Those things sound bad, but that's the way it was. In an environment like that you need a close friend. That's been 28 years ago. We see each other every 2 or 3 years and pick up like we've not been apart. We were young then and out to save the world. And believe it or not, those challenges were fun....then.

    ReplyDelete

I moved away 10 years ago for my husbands job, but when he retired, we moved right back. We remained close during those years, visiting each other and meeting at quilt shows and retreats. It's so wonderful to be physically close again too!

    ReplyDelete
  126. I met my friend Peg in third grade--she was "Margaret" then. We sewed Barbie clothes together, and were members of "The Cat Club," which had its meetings in my closet. That was more than 50 years ago. Peg moved to New Zealand after college, eventually met and married a charming Kiwi, and became a quilter, too! Just a few weeks ago, hubby and I made a spur of the moment trip to see his parents, in the same town where Peg's dad lives. When we got there, I phoned her dad to check on him, something I always hope to do, but rarely get it done. We spoke for just a couple of minutes, and he said, "Well, here, I'll let you talk to Peg." Oh, my gosh! She was in town, from NEW ZEALAND!! Best surprise ever! We met with huge hugs, talked and laughed fast and hard, and parted with tears, as always. As she said, "The Universe takes care of us."

  127. Tough question for me right now because my most special, quintessential, absolute tip-top everlasting friend was my beautiful sister who just lost her battle with brain cancer. She was the perfect sister and a fabulous friend who was loved and is missed by many. BUT... one day, we will be together again and I will start to tell her about all that has happened. She will laugh and say that she already knows... that she has been watching. And it will be like we were never separated.

    ReplyDelete
  128. My everlasting friend is Linda, we met in a laundermat. We were folding clothes next to each other and noticed that our jeans had holes in them and duct tape on the bottom of the legs. Started talking about that and discovered out husbands worked in same welding dept at John Deere. That was 35 years ago! Thanks for the giveaways.

We've been through everything good and bad together. We don't see each other often since I work full time but we always enjoy our time when we call or see each other!

    ReplyDelete
  137. My everlasting friend is either or both of my 2 sisters...they always know what buttons to push, but they also know just what to say and do when you need them most. They have always been there for me and I know they always will.

  139. I met my everlasting friend in college. She helped me find a specialist when my doctor was having difficulty diagnosing and treating my illness. Neither of us quilted when we met, but now we both quilt. Wish she lived closer, but when we do get together, we pick up as if no time had lapsed.

    ReplyDelete
  140. My everlasting friend Mary and I met through our children and their various activities 25 years ago. I was like a second mom to her kids and although we no longer live close, the bond is just as strong as ever.

    ReplyDelete
  141. One of my everlasting friends (also a Susan!), was first one of my college roommates many, many years ago! We've lived near and far from each other, but have never lost the friendship bond. We can call each other and cry about something going on in our lives, knowing that the other will be standing with us, praying for us, and supporting us. We've each made many other friends along the way, but there's something about a forever friend that keeps drawing you back.

    ReplyDelete
  142. My everlasting friend is my friend Lisa. I met her the first day of college in my first class. She lived close to the college, while I lived one hour and twenty minutes away. It was hard to get together, but we managed. Ironically, NOW she lives in my hometown and I am still one hour and twenty minutes away from her. We get together at least once a year and talk on the phone a couple of times a year, but we always pick up where we left off. She is my very dearest friend.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I have be best friends with Cindy since we were in Kindergarden. We are both 50 now. We have lived in different cities over the years and now we live in the same. We both have a cottage at the same lake and see each other when we can.

    ReplyDelete
  145. My best friend Marie, met when we
attended a quilting class, and hit
off about 15 years ago. She has since moved some distance away, and
we find that family commitments and
life have separated us somewhat, that
is where the internet and shop hops
bring us together to keep in tough.

  146. I met my everlasting friend 40 years ago, and it is the kind of friendship that has endured through many ups and downs. We lived in the same city for 35 years, but now, she has moved back to her hometown to care for her elderly father. We still speak on the phone from time to time, but I haven't seen her for over a year. Our friendship is still very solid, and when next I see her, it will be as if we had met only yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I lost my best and everlasting friend when he passed away a few years back. We met when our family moved next door to his family when we were only three years old.

After high school, our chosen career paths separated us. We both went to different colleges in different parts of the country. Many times, several years would pass before we would "hook up" again, whether it be by way of a phone call, letter, birthday or Christmas card.

When he got married, I attended his wedding and he in turn was best man at our wedding. My husband and him became great friends the first time they met one another.

Sadly, as I said, he passed away a few years ago but not a day goes by where something doesn't bring back a fond memory and a smile to my face.

Thanks for allowing me to share this little walk down memory lane. Although I have tears running down my face as I write this, they are indeed sweet tears.

  150. My best friend from 3rd grade (we used to write stories about our teacher - she was a good sport & let us read them to the class) & I live on opposite sides of the country now but we used to sew our own fancy dresses for high school dances. We'd make trips to the fabric store together to select patterns & fabric.
We'd get together for pictures of ourselves in our creations before the guys arrived (in their polyester suits. ha) for the flower-pinnings. We are both still active sewers/quilters.

  155. One of my everlasting friends came to me my junior year of high school. We were inseperable until we went off to college. I was maid of honor at her wedding and she moved out of state. I saw her again several years later and it was as though she'd never left. She named her daughter after me. I didn't meet the child until she was over 10 years old. We've both been married and widowed/divorced without the other there, but never once believed the other wasn't just a phone call away.

The quilt I made for her wedding over a year ago is done and just waiting to be delivered to her two and a half hours away. I think it's time for a road trip. Thanks for this give away!

    ReplyDelete
  156. My friend is like Susan. We don't chat as often as we should, but when we do, it is wonderful, like you said, we just pick up where we left off, even if too many months had passed. Oh, love your bright and happy pinwheel quilt!!!

  164. We moved when I was between 6th & 7th grade. I had been a "city" girl and would now become a "country" girl. This was an awful time in my life - I was at the gawky stage, and then "no" friends to speak of since I didn't know anyone. Phyllis and I became fast friends and still are to this day. I think those days of transition would have been much, much harder if not for her - and they were still not easy. We can pick up the phone, or run in to each other somewhere and it's like no time has past.

  175. My relationship with my friend Jennifer is like yours with your friend Susan. Except Jennifer always feels guilty because she feels that I'm always the one to keep in touch, but she shouldn't feel that way at all. Jennifer is raising two boys and going to school to become a minister. I keep track of her through Facebook and I know she's crazy busy and I'm so proud of her for her huge heart and how she's raising two wonderful, kind, thoughtful, polite and respectful young men along with her funny and lovable husband, Kevin. Through Facebook I knew when she would have her first sermon in her first church and I surprised her by being there. She yelled out my name and cried and hugged me and was so, so happy that I was there. She had absolutely no idea. I was so excited, I couldn't wait to surprise her! It's sometimes hard for us to together with her crazy schedule, and we also live an hour and a half apart, but when we get together or talk on the phone, it's just like picking up again from yesterday.

My everlasting friend I met at age 4 3/4, when my family moved two doors down from hers. The neighborhood was overwhelmed with boys so we were two girls in a pod. We went all through school together and then she went away to college and I stayed home. Many many letters filled several years and we have continued to stay in touch, now by social media. Occasionally we even see each other in the flesh!

  197. My everlasting friend is a woman I met when I joined a local guild 7 years ago. Love that the conversation begins lright where we left off no matter how long since we last saw each other.

  198. I also have a friend like Susan, her name is Mary. We have lived close by and far away from each other over the past 30+ years. When we are far away, we try to go on vacation together - and yes we take the sewing machine, quilt frames and all. We go in our 5th wheels, hubbys are great to get our makeshift sewing room set up and we have a blast. Love your new line - have to see if my favorite quilt shop gets it in.
    Thanks for the fun

  199. My everlasting friend and I are both 72 years old and have been friends since we were babies. Our mothers were neighbors and friends, and that made it possible. We haven't lived near each other since first grade, but we never miss Christmas and birthday cards and several phone calls in between. That's a pretty good friendship!

  200. Those are indeed the best and truest friends. Mine lives six hours away though it was me who had the life change that brought me so far away from her. Whilst I wouldn't change a thing about my decision ten years ago, I do miss her and we often dream about the existence of transporters so that we could see each other more. Two years ago she was diagnosed with cancer and I made a spur of the moment trip up to see her... just for the day she had her first lot of treatment. I haven't been able to get back to see her since that day. Thankfully, she was given the all clear a few months ago. We talk every now and again on the phone and its like we're just down the road from each other. I've just remembered too, that before that fateful day, we used to sew together - ONLINE! We'd get a video call going and sit in each other's company... we've both been so caught up and busy with life that I'd forgotten... thank you so much for bringing this memory back to me xxx
