March Madness

Temps in the 80's, birds are building nests, flowers are popping out of the ground, and there are leaves on the trees.
March Madness for sure.

Occasionally we do get temps in the upper 70's and 80's in March and it feels a little spring like but you can still feel the winter and you know the warmth is not here to stay. Right now here in Iowa it is in the 80's and I am not feeling any winter. Do you suppose winter is really over and the nice weather is here to stay?

We celebrated daughter Abby's 30th birthday over the weekend.
Her birthday is March 20th - the first day of spring.
In all of her 30 years she has not had a birthday that was this warm.
The spring almost summer like weather allowed us to dine outside on the patio at Zombie Burger to celebrate the big birthday.

Happy Birthday Abby!
Of coarse I forgot my camera - so no b-day pictures.
Usually when I forget my camera i just draw something.
This time I am using something that Abby drew.
It is a self portrait that she did in a high school art class.
I have always loved how she captured her
beautiful green eyes and full dark eyelashes.
I have framed it and it hangs in our cabin.

This unusually warm weather has also made me want to...

Tend to my long neglected toes.

Buy fun shoes - even though they cover up my new pedi.

Buy a new article of clothing in one of the new bright colors of spring.

Design fabric with more bright pops of color.

What is this unusually warm weather making you want to do?

Happy Spring!

From my heart,

Sandy

  1. What a fun post! The weather right now is keeping me inside. A front with bad stuff in it is on it's way. I could be in the closet soon.....smile.

  3. I can't believe how warm it is this week, but I am not complaining. My son hit the big 30 this year too.

  4. Just north of you in Minnesota, and we also have 80 degrees. We've been sitting on the patio for the last week. Unbelievable! And this weather makes me want to do something with the 3 charm packs of Frolic that I have in my stash. I love that line! It's so happy and springy! Love it. Thanks!

  5. I would enjoy sewing with more bright pops of color in the wonderful weather, except here in Montana, we still have grey skies, snow/rain and cold temps, so I'll just have to live vicariously. Enjoy!!

  6. yea for beautiful weather in Iowa! It really is something isn't it! I'm trying to get my flowers uncovered before they are 2 ft tall with this warm weather. my frightfully white legs are staying covered however hot it may be outside. I'm not quite ready to reveal those yet.

For the next few months I will be participating in the Jelly Roll Quilters Mystery Quilt

    http://www.jellyrollquilters.com/

and I will be using your Zippity Doo dah fabric line. :) stay tuned. I can't wait to see how it turns out. It will be my first jelly roll quilt and i have never done a mystery before. Leaving my control zone behind and casting everything to the wind :)

  9. We've had warm weather here in NE. I have never seen my tulips come up so early! I'm thinking spring is here permanently-don't my flowers know? Anyway, this spring weather makes me want to paint and decorate my home. My family runs for cover because I always want to sort through the old "stuff" we have and get rid of it-you know, spring cleaning! :)

    Happy Birthday to your daughter!

  10. We usually get nice weather this week (just the week, not the month) in Oregon but last Tuesday we had snow on the coast! Wowzers. But it makes great quilting weather.
