2012 Designer Mystery Blog Hop

Welcome to my day of the 2012 Designer Mystery Blog Hop.

Well Kimberly Jolly and the staff over at Fat Quarters have outdone themselves again. Fat Quarters not only organized a fabulous fun mystery quilt but they will be giving away 1 Layer Cake™ of the featured designer each day of the hop. That's a total of 13 FREE Layer Cakes—PLUS the grand prize! Thank you Kimberly!

The fabric featured in the mystery series is Vintage Modern by Moda fabrics designed by the very pretty mother daughter team of Bonnie and Camille.

If you are looking for the definition of Vintage Modern you will not find it in a dictionary.
Google it and you will not find an actual definition either.
My definition would be to take something vintage that is classic and timeless and add something new and trendy for the modern part of Vintage Modern.

Our task was to find a piece of clothing in our closets that was Vintage Modern.
Let's review:
I live in an 1890's house.
No closets. (My closet is an antique wardrobe that measures just 5 feet across.)
Not even a coat closet.
Therefore I do not keep my old clothing. When I buy something I donate something old.
Sooo my choices were very limited.

This is a snippet of my item.

The item was purchased at a store that is called by a different name today.
The item was purchased 30 years ago.
Audrey would have only worn this with brown - but not brown diamonds.
Someday my daughter might wear this item.
Can you guess what this item is?
You have 24 hours to leave ONE guess in the comment area of this post

Whoever guesses correctly will then be entered to win this Sassy Layer Cake™ complements of Fat Quarter Shop.
Thank you Kimberly!

If you would like to sign up for the Block of the Month Club featuring the Vintage Modern fabric collection, you can do so here.

Thanks for stopping by today. Tomorrow the mystery continues over at Bonnie and Camille's blogs. (Two blogs to visit tomorrow.)

Happy Guessing.

From my heart,
Sandy

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, if you routinely give away old clothing, then whatever this is must have been valuable enough that you wanted to save it. It looks like a fur (brown mink?) coat.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would say it was purchased at Dayton's (Marshall Fields and now Macy's). It definetley looks like fur to me.

Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It looks like a fur wrap - maybe not a full coat, but a short wrap like a stole? My mom has a fur coat.

  46. My grandmother and my mother each had one of these and we used to play dress-up with them! I always loved that nubby, bumpy texture! Now the thought of wearing a mink or fur stole or cape or wrap sort of grosses me out! Of course Audrey could pull anything off! Such a classy lady!

  47. Everyone lucky to have something in fur can never cast it aside! I love your fabric lines..I get excited to see what you create next!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Audrey Hepburn wore a brown hat with a brown dress in the train station scene in the 1958 movie "Funny Face". She didn't arrive at Tiffany's until 1961, so no diamonds, brown or otherwise. Ms. Hepburn was not adverse to wearing fur as she became spokesperson for Blackglama mink -- so I think your item is a mink hat. Even a house without closets can store a hat!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think it's a fur hat- doesn't take up a lot of space, and it's (almost) one size fits all.
I read some of your blogs, and will definitely be returning. I had those same glasses when I was a girl! :)Tanis

    ReplyDelete

    Could be hat?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Sandy, I am sure that is a chevron style fur coat, and I am guessing that since we are both North Iowa girls, you would have made the trip to Minneapolis and purchased it at Dayton's fur salon, which became Marshall Fields and would now be Macy's. Thanks so much for sharing your great talent and gifts!

    Sassy is sublime! :)

    ReplyDelete
  148. I'm torn...from your clues I have two guesses, and can't pick which one to go with...so here's both: 1)a brown shaved mink hat (like Holly Golightly wears in Breakfast at Tiffanys or 2) a brown knit 'ranch house' like Holly Golightly is knitting (although hers is red)...either of which were bought at Marshall Fields in the early 80s.
