Well Kimberly Jolly and the staff over at Fat Quarters have outdone themselves again. Fat Quarters not only organized a fabulous fun mystery quilt but they will be giving away 1 Layer Cake™ of the featured designer each day of the hop. That's a total of 13 FREE Layer Cakes—PLUS the grand prize! Thank you Kimberly!
The fabric featured in the mystery series is Vintage Modern by Moda fabrics designed by the very pretty mother daughter team of Bonnie and Camille.
If you are looking for the definition of Vintage Modern you will not find it in a dictionary.
Google it and you will not find an actual definition either.
My definition would be to take something vintage that is classic and timeless and add something new and trendy for the modern part of Vintage Modern.
Our task was to find a piece of clothing in our closets that was Vintage Modern.
Let's review:
I live in an 1890's house.
No closets. (My closet is an antique wardrobe that measures just 5 feet across.)
Not even a coat closet.
Therefore I do not keep my old clothing. When I buy something I donate something old.
Sooo my choices were very limited.
This is a snippet of my item.
The item was purchased at a store that is called by a different name today.
The item was purchased 30 years ago.
Audrey would have only worn this with brown - but not brown diamonds.
Someday my daughter might wear this item.
Can you guess what this item is?
You have 24 hours to leave ONE guess in the comment area of this post
Whoever guesses correctly will then be entered to win this Sassy Layer Cake™ complements of Fat Quarter Shop.
Thank you Kimberly!
If you would like to sign up for the Block of the Month Club featuring the Vintage Modern fabric collection, you can do so here.
Thanks for stopping by today. Tomorrow the mystery continues over at Bonnie and Camille's blogs. (Two blogs to visit tomorrow.)
Happy Guessing.
From my heart,
Sandy

ReplyDeletemy guess is some kind of yummy warm coat :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's a hat.
ReplyDeleteReally no clue, but my first guess before reading the comments was a hat. You don't really need a closet for that, right?! Thanks for the chance to win your fabulous fabric.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is a fur coat or stole. Makes me wonder whatever happened to my grandmother's fur coat... It was so warm and toasty to wear on a cold winter's day!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a fur, maybe mink, stole or coat. My mom had a fur and I remember sitting next to her in church and cuddling up in the soft fluffy fur.
ReplyDeleteYou are so kind - some of the blog pics are HUH???? lol Beautiful mink coat :)
ReplyDeleteMink stole.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity - LOVE your fabrics!

ReplyDeleteI bet its a wonderful furry hat.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fur...maybe a coat.
ReplyDeleteLOve Sassy!
Hmmmmm-my first thought was a fur wrap or coat and I guess I will stick with that.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely looks like fur to me, either a coat or a stole. I remember as a child, in the 70's, thinking fur coats were so glamorous!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a fur coat.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you routinely give away old clothing, then whatever this is must have been valuable enough that you wanted to save it. It looks like a fur (brown mink?) coat.
ReplyDeleteI would say it was purchased at Dayton's (Marshall Fields and now Macy's). It definetley looks like fur to me.
ReplyDeletePS I live in an old farm house and I understand no closets.
PB from MN
It looks like a fur coat or wrap to me as well!
ReplyDeleteA fur stole of some sort.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing, which occured to me was THE MINK STOLE. It must be that ;o)
ReplyDeleteA mink stole? My grandmother was so proud of her mink stole. I only have one picture of her with it on. Audrey indeed!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a mink stole to me!
ReplyDeleteA fur coat would be my guess. I have my grandmother's mink coat she wore in the 40's. I love it, though I'm living on a Mink Ranch!!!
ReplyDeleteI will go with a fur wrap, too. Five feet of storage would force you to be very disciplined with clothes accummulation - maybe I need to try that!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
It looks like a fur wrap - maybe not a full coat, but a short wrap like a stole? My mom has a fur coat.
ReplyDeleteandersonclanatmacdotcom
Fur wrap or coat :) Your rule of buy something new, out goes something old is great advice...however that would be extrememly difficult for ME to maintain......I envy your strength!
ReplyDeleteA fur muff to keep your hands warm :)
ReplyDeleteI think it is a fur stole or coat. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother and my mother each had one of these and we used to play dress-up with them! I always loved that nubby, bumpy texture! Now the thought of wearing a mink or fur stole or cape or wrap sort of grosses me out! Of course Audrey could pull anything off! Such a classy lady!
ReplyDeleteMGM
I hope that it is a fur wrap
ReplyDeleteEveryone lucky to have something in fur can never cast it aside! I love your fabric lines..I get excited to see what you create next!
ReplyDeleteAudrey Hepburn wore a brown hat with a brown dress in the train station scene in the 1958 movie "Funny Face". She didn't arrive at Tiffany's until 1961, so no diamonds, brown or otherwise. Ms. Hepburn was not adverse to wearing fur as she became spokesperson for Blackglama mink -- so I think your item is a mink hat. Even a house without closets can store a hat!
ReplyDeleteFur coat. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is a fur coat. Thanks for a chance.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it could be a fur coat or stole.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a fur coat.

ReplyDeleteI think it's a fur shrug. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFur coat or stole? Definitly looks like fur.

ReplyDeleteA mink stole or jacket. My great-aunt gifted us one of each when she was cleaning things out and we used to play "dress up" and have parades with the furs, evening gowns, fabulous hats, and elbow length gloves.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a fur hat- doesn't take up a lot of space, and it's (almost) one size fits all.
ReplyDeleteI read some of your blogs, and will definitely be returning. I had those same glasses when I was a girl! :)Tanis
I'd say a fur garment of some sort too. Great definition of Vintage Modern!

ReplyDeleteI would guess fur scarf or stole. As you don't have a coat closet, I think it might be smaller than a coat.
ReplyDeleteCould be hat?
Sandy, I am sure that is a chevron style fur coat, and I am guessing that since we are both North Iowa girls, you would have made the trip to Minneapolis and purchased it at Dayton's fur salon, which became Marshall Fields and would now be Macy's. Thanks so much for sharing your great talent and gifts!
ReplyDeleteI'm going with a mink coat. It looks really similar to my Grandmother's vintage mink coat hanging in my closet.
ReplyDeleteI would say fur something - coat or muff maybe?

ReplyDeleterock on!
(that could be small enough to fit in a 5-foot wardrobe...)
Well I will guess a fur coat or wrap.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought when I looked at the picture was a fur coat or wrap/stole. Seems I'm in agreement with lots of ladies! Fun blog hop. ~Jody R.

ReplyDeleteSince you don't have closets, I would say it is something small. I can't imagine you're a fur type, but I might be completely wrong. So, I am going for a knitted wrap, which you can easily put over chair back.

ReplyDeleteIt's probably a fur, but it also looks like a hat, so my guess is a hat.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly looks like a fur coat, but maybe it is a cape?
ReplyDeleteDebbie
At first I thought of a mink or sable stole - but looking at the image again I think it may be too wide for that - so I would guess it is a coat of some description (perhaps a cape?).
ReplyDeleteSassy is sublime! :)
Maybe a fur coat?
ReplyDeleteI'm torn...from your clues I have two guesses, and can't pick which one to go with...so here's both: 1)a brown shaved mink hat (like Holly Golightly wears in Breakfast at Tiffanys or 2) a brown knit 'ranch house' like Holly Golightly is knitting (although hers is red)...either of which were bought at Marshall Fields in the early 80s.
ReplyDeleteThis is so very fun. My guess would be a fur coat or stole. Thanks, Karen M

ReplyDeletemarksey3@msn.com
The fibers seem to be looped. It's so dark, it hard to tell. I'll guess a hat, maybe of the pill box type.
ReplyDeleteI'm a thinking it may be a fur hat...that little section near the bottom looks like it may be some type of ornamentation for it...also hats used to be purchased from Millinery's and today we call them hat shops! That's my answer and I'm sticking to it!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is a mink coat. Definitely worth holding on to and very warm on the coldest winter day.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a mink stole! What a great vintage item!
ReplyDeleteYes, a mink stole/coat! Definitely vintage!
ReplyDeleteI am going to guess a fur coat! :) Thank you so much for the chance! It was interesting to hear of a house with no closets. I am going to admit that I had not heard of that before today! I kind of like the idea...it sure would cause me to become much more practical and a little less materialistic! Love that idea!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric. My guess is a fur coat/stole.
